How to keep a shop's credit (udhaar) book — 7 ways to stop losing money
Every shop gives credit — but a missed entry or a forgotten customer means money lost. A few simple habits cut that loss a lot.
1. A separate account for every customer
One paper diary mixes everyone's dues. Keep a separate ledger per customer — what they took, when, and what they paid. DukanDesk makes each party's ledger automatically.
2. Write credit on the bill itself
When goods go on credit, make the bill and enter only what was received. The rest goes into the account on its own. Send the bill PDF on WhatsApp — no arguments later.
3. Set a credit limit
Fix a limit for each customer, for example ₹5,000. DukanDesk warns you while billing when the limit is crossed.
4. Watch "how many days due"
More than the amount, how long it is due matters. Collect dues older than 30 days first. DukanDesk's dues list shows the days next to every customer.
5. A reminder once a week
People don't remind out of hesitation. On a fixed day every week send a WhatsApp reminder in one tap — polite, with the amount.
6. Send a statement
At month end send each customer their ledger statement (PDF). A clear account gets paid faster.
7. Always keep a backup
If the phone is lost or breaks, the credit record goes with it. Keep a backup file on Google Drive every week.
DukanDesk has all of this in one place — bills, khata, dues list, WhatsApp reminders and backup. Try it free for 7 days.
